This wave of sound finishes in a nuanced piece of art, grasping influences picked up from a lifelong love for music, and presenting a refined and glimmering track. Rimmer’s good friend and fellow musician Gaz Rowntree finds two of his numbers, ‘ Cards Are Showing Down’ and ‘Spanish David’, placed in the second verse of The South, attributing his style and musical presence to the influential response Rowntree evoked from Rimmer at the early stage of his career. Rimmer said he hadn’t felt that way, and truly resonated with music, since his childhood days, listening to Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash and all those Sun Records guys.

You would certainly be forgiven for assuming Rimmer derives from the USA, with The South depicting the scene of the American Midwest and the presence of the land of the free ostensibly woven into the core of the young musician’s identity. Sinclair attempted to have the term for the World’s End crimes reduced but that was rejected by appeal court judges. The then lord advocate, Frank Mulholland, the prosecutor in the trial, said the thousands of police officers who worked on the case over the years had “never ceased in their endeavours to bring the girls’ murderers to justice”.
The case, which became known as the World’s End murders, was for decades one of Scotland’s highest-profile unsolved crimes. The sentencing judge described Sinclair as a “dangerous predator capable of sinking to the depths of depravity” and said the words “evil” and “monster” were inadequate for him. The prosecution was the first under changes to Scotland’s double jeopardy law, which meant he could be retried for their murders after a court case against him collapsed seven years earlier. Sinclair was convicted in November 2014 of raping and murdering the girls with his brother-in-law, Gordon Hamilton, who died in 1996. Their bodies were discovered the following day in East Lothian. Scientific advances later led detectives to Sinclair for the unsolved World’s End murders of 1977.Įadie and Scott, both 17, were killed after a night out at Edinburgh’s World’s End pub on 15 October 1977. Sinclair was linked to the crime years later a DNA breakthrough. The 17-year-old was raped and stabbed near a railway line as she went to meet a friend. It meant he spent about 40 years of his life locked up.Īfter the Gallacher case police examined the link between Sinclair and several other unsolved murders. Aged 16, he pleaded guilty to culpable homicide, admitting strangling Catherine Reehill in Glasgow and dumping her body on a tenement stairway. However, he had previously served six years behind bars for killing a seven-year-old girl in 1961. While still in prison for the attacks, Sinclair was given a life sentence in 2001 for the murder of the Glasgow teenager Mary Gallacher in 1978.
